Kids… They say what they think, ask questions that make you blush, and have endless curiosity. In the Bible, God presents Himself as a loving Father and calls us His children.
2 Corinthians 6:18
"I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters , says the Lord Almighty."
Does this mean that God wants us to come to Him like spontaneous, carefree, uninhibited children—without shame or the pressure to perform? Yes!
Hebrews 4:16
"Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."
God desires for us to approach Him boldly. That means we can come to Him without fear, doubt, or low self-esteem. We are His beloved children, and He wants us to pray with confidence, knowing that He listens to us.
When we pray, God always listens. We don’t have to beg or strive to be heard.
In Ephesians 6:18 it says:
"Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints."
The word 'supplication' mentioned here is an old-fashioned term meaning 'petitioning,' but it does not mean begging in the way you might think.
Prayer is talking to your Father in Heaven. Through prayer, you establish a heart-to-heart connection with God. He listens with love and desires for you to share everything with Him.
How amazing is it that God hears us the first time we pray? We can talk to Him as a dearly loved child would! If you’re not quite sure what that looks like, the rest of this Bible plan will help you understand it.
If you want your prayers to be answered, the Bible gives some guidelines to follow.
Just as there is a right way to pray, there is also a wrong way to pray—one that does not lead to answered prayer. We want to avoid that, of course.
James 4:3 in the Amplified Classic version says it best:
“[Or] you do ask [God for them] and yet fail to receive, because you ask with wrong purpose and evil, selfish motives.”
Praying incorrectly includes asking for things that are not aligned with God’s Word and simply trying to get your own way.
Or perhaps you pray with doubt and unbelief, without being fully convinced that God will do what He has promised.
Tomorrow, we’ll dive deeper into how to pray correctly so that you will constantly stay connected to God and always see your prayers answered!
Activation:
How do you usually pray? Do you feel bold drawing near to God, or do you feel reluctant?
Try talking to God today without any religious formalities. Just share your heart with Him as you would with a close friend.
