Understanding God`s Word Week 2නියැදිය

Day 5: Scripture Interpreting Scripture
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 2:13 - "This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words."
Reflection:
The Bible is its own best commentary. We should use other passages of Scripture to help us understand a particular verse or passage. This principle, known as "Scripture interpreting Scripture," recognizes the unity and coherence of God's Word, knowing that it speaks with one voice and reveals one truth.
Using Scripture to interpret Scripture involves looking for connections and parallels between different passages. It means allowing the clearer passages to shed light on the more difficult ones, and using the broader context of Scripture to inform our understanding of individual verses. It means recognizing that the Holy Spirit is the ultimate author of Scripture, guiding us into all truth.
As we use Scripture to interpret Scripture, we are reminded of the consistency and reliability of God's Word. We see how different passages reinforce and complement each other, revealing a coherent and unified message. We approach the Bible with confidence, knowing that it is trustworthy and true.
Prayer: God, thank you for the unity and coherence of your Word. Help us to connect different passages and to see how they fit together to reveal your truth. Amen.
Application:
- Look for Connections: Look for connections and parallels between different passages of Scripture, allowing them to inform your understanding.
- Use Clearer Passages: Use clearer passages to shed light on more difficult ones, recognizing the unity and coherence of God's Word.
- Trust the Holy Spirit: Trust the Holy Spirit to guide you into all truth, knowing that He is the ultimate author of Scripture.
