Leading Well: 5 Choices for Christian Leaders a 5 - Day Plan by Michele C. Walker, Ph.D.නියැදිය

Paul Chose Faith
That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
In 2 Corinthians 12, Paul talks about a “thorn” in his life- an ongoing issue. We don’t know exactly what it was, but we know Paul wanted it gone. He prayed and repeatedly asked God for relief, but God’s response was unexpected. Instead of taking the thorn away, God said, "My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness" (verse 9).
Paul prayed for the problem to disappear, but God answered, “No.” That "no" changed Paul’s entire perspective. Over time, he understood that God had a plan, even in his struggles, and that plan was for God’s glory.
As leaders, we’ve all had moments when we’ve wished certain challenges would just go away. But leadership isn’t about escaping the hard stuff. God uses our weaknesses and complex situations to mold us into the leaders He has in mind. To do that, we go to God, tell Him what we need, and trust that His response is good for us. He will help us manage job demands and remain faithful to the vision we’ve been given.
We honor God by going through leadership challenges well. Paul went to God with his issue and chose to demonstrate faith in His character-developing process. We can, too.
Reflection Questions
- What’s weighing on you as a leader right now?
- How might God be using that challenge to strengthen you?
- What’s one step you can take today to lean into His strength?
Leadership Action
Embrace God’s Strength: When you feel weak or overwhelmed, remember that God’s power is at its best in our weaknesses. Rely on His strength, not your own.
Let’s Pray
Father, thank You for the privilege to lead. Even when we feel inadequate, we trust that Your grace is more than enough. Help us lean on You for strength, clarity, and wisdom in every situation. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
