I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

Many of us who live “on the grid” and have constant access to conveniences like electric lights in our homes, streetlights, and cell phones may not have experienced utter darkness. But if you get far away from civilization, camping outside on a moonless night, you will discover what real darkness is! When Jesus identified Himself to those who were curious about Him, He claimed to be the Light of the world. And though it’s not obvious to the modern ear, that was a royal designation in the ancient world: the “light of the world” was how a king would be described! And indeed, Jesus is the King who brings light into the darkness of our lives when we follow Him.

Prayer: Jesus, as I follow Your light, You lead me into life. Thank You for who You are. Open my eyes so that I can see You plainly. Amen.
