The generosity of God
READ ROMANS 3
Arguably the most theological book of the New Testament, Romans is a detailed presentation of complexities within and flowing from the Gospel of Jesus Christ. If the information in Romans is the "trees," then the "wood" we should not lose sight of is the simple wonder of God’s grace. The might and mercy of God are on full display in Romans chapter 3, a turning point in the Apostle Paul’s comprehensive letter.
Before 3:21–26, Romans has been an accurate blowtorch to the human condition. Basically, "there is no one righteous, not even one" (3:10, referencing Psalm 14). All have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. Yes, that’s awful. But then appears the incredible truth of God’s righteousness offered to us through faith in Jesus to all who believe (3:22).
We can be so familiar with this that we fail to note God’s powerful generosity. The almighty of everything chose to offer forgiveness and restoration to us, even though we deserve the opposite.
