Day 3: A Child is Not About You

A child is not about you. This is something people don’t want to hear in today’s culture, where abortion takes the lives of over 2,500 children daily in the United States alone. But a child is not about you; a child is about the Lord and His sovereign plans. Look at Psalm 139, a notable passage of Scripture regarding the unborn. Nothing in this verse is regarding the pregnant mother’s will or her aspirations. Nothing in this verse speaks to the desires of her heart or her hopeful future plans. This psalm is about the creation of a child and the plans for that child’s life, not our own. Of course, this psalm is also for each of us to remember the truth that the Lord ordains our days, and thus the number of them and what happens within that span. God’s purposes are far greater than any woman’s wants, and the child He has created in your womb has been a part of His magnificent plan eons in advance. Let us praise His Great Name for blessing us with this treasure, whose gender was handpicked by the same God who spun entire galaxies into orbit. Now, that is something to rejoice in!
