The Death and Resurrection of the KingSample

Jesus’ death was no accident “ And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up His spirit.” (Matthew 27:50) After hours of intense suffering on the cross, Jesus died. His body was already weakened by the scourgings and mockings, and the crucifixion itself took its toll. In addition, there was the severe spiritual suffering that exhausted Him. And yet... Jesus' death was not an inescapable defeat. He gave His life knowingly and willingly. In Matthew 20:28, Jesus explains that He did not come to earth to be served by men, but “to give His life as a ransom for many.” Thus, His death was part of His mission. This also becomes clear in John 10:17-18, where Jesus says He willingly gives His life: “No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of My own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again.” Jesus remained God even at the cross. He had power over life and death. Jesus' death was not the end. A few days later He would rise again. In Revelation 1:17-18, John describes his encounter with the risen Lord, Who tells him, “I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore.” What does Jesus' death evoke in you? Do you find it mainly sad, hard to believe, a cause for gratitude? Why?
