Have you ever felt like God has forgotten you? Have you really needed healing, a new friend, or some financial help, and your prayers seem to go unnoticed?
We've all experienced times when we've felt like God didn't hear our prayers, and that can be so difficult. It is hard to understand why God answers some prayers, and doesn't answer others. Prayers aren't usually answered in the way we'd like — not because God forgot us, but because we live in a world that is broken.
Unfortunately, heartache and disappointment happen. God doesn't cause the pain and hurt in our lives, but is with us when we are suffering, and somehow God can bring good out of the most awful situations.
In the Scripture today, the writer of the psalm expresses feelings of abandonment. Like us, he asks, "Where are you, God?" In the moment, it's hard to see how God is at work. But then the writer remembers how God has provided in the past. He reflects on how God had been faithful to his ancestors, and that gave him courage to trust in the middle of his present darkness.
When we are in the middle of our struggles, it's helpful to remember the stories of those who have trusted in God before us. Like them, God will show up for us, and provide what we need, when the time is right.

For the next four weeks, we’ll look at how the earliest followers of Jesus created a new kind of community as God's family. Through their example, we’ll learn that there is enough when we share what we have — and if there isn’t enough, God provides. We'll also learn that our actions can speak when words aren’t enough and that God’s love is always enough.
