God, the Powerful Judge

1God is known in Judah;
his name is great in Israel. # 76:1 Jr 10:6; Mal 1:11
2His tent is in Salem,
his dwelling place in Zion. # 76:2 Gn 14:18; Ps 9:11
3There he shatters the bow’s flaming arrows,
the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war. # 76:3 Ps 46:9; Is 2:4; Jr 49:35 Selah
4You are resplendent and majestic
coming down from the mountains of prey. # 76:4 Is 14:25; Nah 2:13
5The brave-hearted have been plundered;
they have slipped into their final sleep.
None of the warriors was able to lift a hand. # 76:5 Jr 51:39
6At your rebuke, God of Jacob,
both chariot and horse lay still. # 76:6 Ex 13:1,21
7And you — you are to be feared. # 76:7 Or are awe-inspiring
When you are angry,
who can stand before you? # 76:7 Ps 1:5; 130:3; Nah 1:6
8From heaven you pronounced judgment.
The earth feared and grew quiet # 76:8 2Ch 20:29–30; Ps 33:8; Hab 2:20
9when God rose up to judge
and to save all the lowly of the earth. # 76:9 Ps 9:7–8; Is 3:13–15 Selah
10Even human wrath will praise you;
you will clothe yourself

11Make and keep your vows
to the Lord your God; # 76:11 Ps 50:14
let all who are around him bring tribute
to the awe-inspiring one. # 76:11 Or tribute with awe,# 76:11 Ps 68:29; Is 18:7
12He humbles the spirit of leaders;
he is feared by the kings of the earth. # 76:12 Dn 4:37
