Islwyn Ffowc Elis
Mae Islwyn Ffowc Elis yn un o awduron Cymraeg mwyaf poblogaidd Cymru. Cafodd ei eni yn Wrecsam ym 1924 a’i fagu yn Glyn Ceiriog. Astudiodd yng Ngholeg Prifysgol Cymru, Bangor a’r Coleg Diwinyddol yn Aberystwyth. Roedd yn Gristion ac yn wrthwynebydd cydwybodol yn ystod y rhyfel. Cafodd ei ordeinio yn weinidog gyda’r Methodistiaid Calfinaidd ym 1950, a’i ofalaeth gyntaf oedd Moreia, Llanfair Caereinion yn Sir Drefaldwyn. Dechreuodd ysgrifennu, ac enillodd y fedal ryddiaith yn Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Llanrwst yn 1951. Yn 1953 cyhoeddodd ei nofel gyntaf, Cysgod y Cryman, ac wedi hynny daeth yn awdur adnabyddus. Mae rhai o’i nofelau wedi eu cyfieithu i’r Saesneg ac i ieithoedd eraill. Bu farw yn 2004.
Efengyl Mathew
Gofynnwyd i Islwyn Ffowc Elis gyfieithu’r Testament Newydd gan Is-Bwyllgor Llên y Gymanfa Gyffredinol (Eglwys Bresbyteraidd Cymru). Cyfieithodd Efengyl Mathew i Gymraeg fodern, safonol a darllenadwy, dan y teitl “Efengyl Mathew — trosiad i Gymraeg diweddar”. Yn 1961 fe’i cyhoeddwyd gan Wasg Pantycelyn, Caernarfon ar ran Llyfrfa’r Methodistiaid Calfinaidd, a elwir bellach yn Eglwys Bresbyteraidd Cymru.

Islwyn Ffowc Elis
Islwyn Ffowc Elis was one of Wales's most popular Welsh-language writers. He was born in Wrexham in North Wales in 1924 and raised nearby in Glyn Ceiriog. He was educated at the University of Wales, Bangor and the Aberystwyth Theological College. He was a Christian and during the war was a conscientious objector. He was ordained into the Calvinistic Methodist ministry in 1950, and his first pastorate was at Moreia Chapel in Llanfair Caereinion in Montgomeryshire, Powys, Mid Wales. He began writing, and won the prose medal at the National Eisteddfod in 1951. In 1953 he published his first novel, Cysgod y Cryman (translated as Shadow of the Sickle), and became a well-known writer. Some of his books were translated into English and other languages. He died in 2004.
The Gospel of Mathew
Islwyn Ffowc Elis was asked to translate the New Testament by the General Assembly Literature Sub-Committee of the Calvinist Methodist Church in Wales. He translated the Gospel of Matthew into readable, modern standard Welsh as “Efengyl Mathew — trosiad i Gymraeg diweddar”. In 1961 it was published in by Pantycelyn Press at Caernarfon for the Calvinist Methodist Church, now called the Presbyterian Church of Wales.
