Illustrations are only supported in the Bible App for iOS, Android, and at Bible.com] Everyone knew that Jesus was dead. The deep, gut-wrenching grief and sense of loss were overwhelming. And now these women were talking about an angel and Jesus being alive! They were deranged. How could Jesus be alive? It was just wishful thinking on their part. It was all nonsense. No one could be expected to believe it. Except Simon Peter. For him, at that point there was obviously a tiny glimmer of hope as he ran to the tomb. Could it be possible that, somehow, Jesus was alive? But even as he stared at the folded grave clothes, he still didn’t realize. We, of course, have the benefit of knowing the end of the story. For Simon Peter, in the middle of it, it must have been so very hard. But it was not long before his confusion turned to inexplicable joy as he met the risen Jesus for himself. It was for real! TALKABOUT Why were Jesus’ friends so surprised that God had brought him back to life? He had told them that this would happen. Why did they not expect it?
