Serving Those Who Are In Crisis

DIA 14 DE 14

“Interruptions and Opposition” Jesus is our example for dealing gracefully with interruptions by those who need help. He and His disciples boated across the sea for a much-needed rest; they were interrupted by a mass of people who longed for His teaching. He taught them. Jesus was on His way to Jarius’ house to tend to a sick child when a woman diverted His attention by touching His garments for healing. He took time to talk to her. Following Jesus’ example of accepting interruptions with grace is a challenge to us in today’s busy world. But if the Master of the universe can do it, why can’t we? On the other hand, Jesus was less patient when He encountered opposition to His healing ministry. He moved right ahead with His work. For example, Jesus addressed the scribes and Pharisees upfront when He knew that they would condemn Him for healing a withered hand on the Sabbath. In doing so, He taught that sometimes issues must be dealt with at the time they arise even if they are unspoken. We may find an “elephant in the room” in the life of someone we are trying to help – a dangerous or unhealthy lifestyle, for instance – that we should confront the individual about.
