How do you use God's Word to overcome temptation?
When Jesus began his three years of ministry, one of the first things that He experienced was the temptations of the devil. The last way Satan tried to gain control of the Son of God was to tempt Him with the promise that if Jesus just bowed His knee to him once, that He would be given all the Kingdoms of the world and their glories — no need to pay that excruciating price of His life on the cross. But Satan never keeps his promises and Jesus did not fall prey to that ploy. His response was “You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only will you serve.” Isn’t it encouraging to realize we have the very same power and weapons to use against the enemy when he comes to tempt us? 1 John 4:4 says “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” We have the guidance and comfort of the Holy Spirit. He is ever present to teach us the way to walk. And our biggest weapon is the Word of God! Fill your mind over and over with God’s Word. Let it saturate your heart! You will be empowered by the Holy Spirit and God’s Word to resist the devil. We are not victims; we are more than conquerors through Jesus Christ!
