When the Flood of the Enemy Comes

DAY 5 OF 5

Sacrifice Sets the Standard (Elijah)

Scripture: 1 Kings 18:30–39

Elijah stood alone on Mount Carmel. He arranged the wood, laid the sacrifice, all efforts done carefully. Then he instructed, “pour water over it”—not once, not twice, but three times. He made it almost impossible for fire to consume. Yet, this was precisely the point. Everyone witnessed it, three drums of water over the sacrifice that was to be burnt was an effort in making a fool of himself. But he knew God. Thus, by setting the standard, he created the space for God to move in undeniable power.

Sometimes, God’s miracles don’t come because we wait; they come when we act, even when it seems difficult, inconvenient, or impossible. Your obedience, your faith, your willingness to set the standard is what invites heaven to respond.

Elijah pouring water over the sacrifice wasn’t just performance. It’s like getting dressed and getting into the driver's seat and ready to drive a car that has no engine and visibly abandoned.

Everyone laughed at Jesus when He said the damsel was just sleeping (Matthew 9:24). But He was setting the standard for a miracle.

Beloved, God is drawn toward the standard we set. His power responds to the altar, the sacrifice, and the intentional act of alignment. Elijah’s obedience created space for heaven to respond.

Today, we often wait for signs, miracles, or breakthroughs as if God’s power moves apart from our initiative. But Elijah shows us that the Spirit moves in response to the standards we know, believe and establish —standards of faith, obedience, and trust.

Sit with this:

What altar are you willing to prepare? What standard are you willing to set in your life? Not for show. Not for applause. But for God to reveal His fire where you’ve positioned yourself in alignment with Him.

Practical Step

Take a quiet moment today. Identify one area where God is calling you to act in faith. Prepare your “altar”—through prayer, confession, or intentional obedience. Let this be a space where God’s power can meet your life. Let the Spirit lead!

Reflection Question

Where in my life do I need to set a higher standard to see God’s fire fall and God’s power manifest?

Closing

Sit quietly. Breathe. Imagine the fire of God falling—purifying, consuming, bringing life. Let the Spirit do His work inside. Let this moment linger. The standard is set. The power is God’s.
