Deliverance: The Experiential Reality of Salvation
While the blood of Christ secures our forgiveness and legal exemption from condemnation, the Gospel promises a full salvation that includes a necessary second component: deliverance. This is the experiential side of redemption, which saves us from the grip of sin and the power of darkness.
The eating of the flesh of the lamb in the Passover ordinance alludes to a reality beyond mere legal forgiveness. It signifies that for salvation to be complete, we must partake of the life of Jesus.
We are meant to receive Christ and eat him for our deliverance. It is this partaking of Christ's life that yields deliverance experientially. The blessing that God is bringing to the world is actually salvation from sin and turning every one of you away from his iniquities.
Experiential deliverance needs appropriation. It is achieved through walking in the light of the truth provided in Christ. You find deliverance when you willingly obey the truth that is in Christ Jesus.
As Jesus told those who believed in Him, "If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed” (John 8:31). Continuing in His word opens the understanding to the revelation of Christ in the scriptures. It establishes you in the deliverance you have received in salvation.
Deliverance is a component of redemption that is inseparable from forgiveness. Just as the blood and the meat of the Passover lamb were consumed together, so too must we receive both the forgiveness through the blood and the deliverance through the life of Christ for a full salvation.
Prayer Focus:
Thank you, Jesus, that you are not only my forgiveness but also my deliverance. Help me to continue in your Word and obey the truth so that I may walk fully in the freedom you purchased for me.
