The Ripple Effect

DAY 5 OF 5

DAY 5 — What Is Your Most Prized Possession?

Scripture:

“How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth.”
Psalm 119:103 (NASB)

It was an early Tuesday morning, and as I sat in my home library, I held the Bible in the air and brought it to my lips and kissed it. I didn’t know our middle daughter, Lauren, was watching me embrace God’s Word. She asked, “Dad, what are you doing? Are you kissing the Bible?”

I said, “Lauren, when a professional athlete wins a sporting event, what do they do with their trophy? They hold it in the air and kiss it. Why? Because it’s their prized possession. God’s Word should be our trophy—our most prized possession!”

If you want to develop an intimate relationship with God, spending time in His Word is essential. Andy Stanley shared that when it comes to studying God’s Word, you have to be disciplined around three things: time, place, and plan.

Time — Choose a specific time during the day to spend in God’s Word.
Place — Pick a spot where the only thing you do is meet with God.
Plan — Have a plan for your time in Scripture: Read, Write, and Pray.

  • Read a chapter, paragraph, or verse for the day.
  • Write in your journal about your struggles, victories, temptations, and prayers.
  • Pray — Prayer is more than a one-way conversation; it’s communion with God.

You were created to have fellowship with God. Your devotional life is vital to your spiritual life.

“When you open your Bible, God opens His mouth.”

About this Plan

The Ripple Effect

When a stone is dropped into still water, it creates a ripple that spreads far beyond the point of impact. What begins as a single moment quickly affects the surrounding surface, reaching outward in every direction. In the same way, our choices, relationships, and sources of wisdom have a ripple effect on our lives. The one who walks with the wise will become wise, but a companion of fools will suffer harm. Proverbs 13:20, HCSB
