One of the highlights of the Olympic Games is the 100 meters. It determines the fastest human on the planet and it is the glamour event of the Olympics. It's over in less than 10 seconds but it draws so much attention. The crowd roars, as the runners shoot out of the blocks. People are glued to their televisions across the world. Nations hoping their athlete wins the ultimate glory.
The runners however are so focused they don’t hear the crowd or observe the television cameras or see the stadium packed with people. Their focus is on the finish line.
When the race starts the competitors are unconcerned with what is behind them. It’s just what’s in front of them that matters.
Paul brings this thought into our relationship with Christ. We live in busy worlds with lots going on. There is the constant roar of distraction. Our mobile devices are constantly demanding our attention and our focus moves from one thing to another so quickly.
What Paul, the great apostle, is encouraging us to do, is to not eliminate everything from our life, but to focus in on what’s really important: God’s will for each of us.
We cannot change our environment or our surroundings but we can choose to focus on something. To make an intentional choice for our own good.
Our prize is Christ and He is our reward. When we choose to focus on Him, there is immeasurable peace and joy that will fill our world.
So choose in your world to focus on what is really important, something that can help you in your life: Your relationship with Jesus.
Take a few minutes to pause, meditate and pray.
