Gather for Adventਨਮੂਨਾ

Candlelight - A Poem
The candle we lit
last night and held
together in the
darkness, one hundred souls
one hundred wicks
raised in carol
there in the
sanctuary
our quiet place of
safety
a cleft carved in the rock
of the world
where we've been
hidden from
all the shouting, from the
howling of the wind
especially these past three
blustery years
no scarcity of light
even as we parcelled it out
each lick of flame
multiplied upon contact
with the next bare wick
eye sockets strangely aglow
shadows and reflections at all angles
twelve baskets of wonder of
gratitude left over.
Was it a candle we held
or the hands of all the saints
tongues singing Christmas
hymns or messengers heralding
Heaven's glory?
Action:
As you light the candle of Advent, share with each other one way that Jesus has brought light and hope into your world this year.

About this Plan

Lighting an Advent candle is a beautiful tradition: an act of faith declaring that darkness doesn’t win because the Light of Christ overcomes it. This Plan will help your family to gather and reflect on the hope, peace, love, joy and wonder Jesus brings to our hearts. Drawn from Gather for Advent, the new Advent book of poems and stories by Andrew Kooman, the plan will bring hope to your heart and home as you prepare for Christmas.
