Acts 27 | God in the Stormਨਮੂਨਾ

Acts 27 | God in the Storm

DAY 5 OF 5

Saved from the Sea

Lost in a boat in the middle of a raging sea, Paul told them,

“I urge you to keep up your courage, because not one of you will be lost; only the ship will be destroyed. Last night, an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar, and God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you.’ So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me” (Acts 27:22-25, NIV).

And on that boat, with the storm raging around, he took some bread, gave thanks to God in front of them all, broke it, began to eat, and then seeing him, the others were encouraged to do the same.

When God makes a promise, it does not fail. Standing on a promise of God brings courage.

God saved Noah and his family from the sea.

God saved Israel as he led them through the sea.

God saved Jonah out of the sea.

God saved Peter from sinking into the sea.

And God will save Paul and his 275 companions from this fierce and raging sea.

God saves from the sea.

Psalm 74 declares, “It was you who split open the sea by your power; you broke the heads of the monster in the waters. It was you who crushed the heads of Leviathan and gave it as food to the creatures of the desert” (NIV).

Psalm 114 cries out, “The sea looked back and fled… Why was it, sea, that you fled?” (Ps 114:3-7, NIV). Because it trembles at the Lord’s presence.

Psalm 146 tells us, “He is the maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them—he remains faithful forever” (Ps 146:6, NIV).

Jesus walks upon the sea. He casts demons into it. He calms it with a simple command. Revelation 4 says that before his throne, the sea is still as glass.

No matter the sea, he is powerful to save.

It’s no coincidence that the Christian church brings a person into Christ by plunging them into water. It’s called baptism. Where we fear death, Jesus saves. Through his death, Jesus saves. And all who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved.

The power of God in the gospel of Jesus brings salvation. Whether today, after a time, or when he comes again, God will save you from the sea.

In Jesus, the sea has no power over me.
