Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Twoਨਮੂਨਾ

Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22 NKJV).
Are you doing the right math?
Today's passage illustrates Saul's incomplete obedience in 1 Samuel 15, showcasing his reliance on faulty logic over God's explicit commands. Despite receiving clear instructions to completely destroy the Amalekites, Saul only partially follows through. Samuel confronts Saul, saying, "Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD?" (1 Samuel 15:22 NKJV). God desires complete obedience. Sadly, Saul’s life serves as an example of someone whose faith in God’s word is weak. His math was based upon human frailty and not on the one who created math itself!
In Luke 14:28, Jesus encourages us to do the math with heaven’s calculator. We are to count the cost and place Jesus first in our lives by doing the heavenly calculation—since God created us, Jesus died for us, and He promises us heaven.
Employment Point: Do the math with heavenly computations.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
