Go AND Do
This week, we have been looking at what it means to live a life of putting others first through the lens of the Parable of the Good Samaritan.
It’s interesting how Jesus ends that conversation with the law expert. When the lawyer answered that “the one who had mercy” in the parable was the true neighbor to the injured man, Jesus replied, “Go and do likewise” (Luke 10:37 NIV).
When reading that, we tend to think Jesus is talking more about the strangers and acquaintances in our lives. After all, the parable was about a man meeting a stranger in need.
But is that what the Bible truly teaches?
As Christian men, we have many other aspects to our lives. Marriage, kids, friends, and our relationship with Jesus all play a factor in who the “others” are for us.
That means we need to “go anddo likewise” for them as well.
When it comes to:
·Marriage: We need to love our wives as Christ loved the Church (Ephesians 5:25).
·Kids: We need not to exasperate them but rather bring them up in the Lord (Ephesians 6:4).
·Friends: We need to be willing to lay down our lives for them (John 15:13).
·Our relationship with Jesus: Be like Him who came not to be served but to serve (Mark 10:45).
To live a life of putting others first is to live a life of action, as it calls us to “go” and “do.”
This is not always easy or convenient, but if we do it well, we will love God, others, and ourselves more.
It might just be the missing screw you are looking for to finish your project.
Prayer: Jesus, thank You for Your Word, which speaks to all areas of my life. Help me to see how I can “go and do” what You are calling me to do, wherever You call me to do it. Amen.
Reflection: What is one way you can “go and do” in your home, workplace, or other areas of your life?

About this Plan

As Christian men, we tend to believe that God has called us to two basic instructions: love God and love people. But even as we affirm this, are we perhaps missing something crucial? This week, we will examine what it means to be men who put others first, living our lives in a Christ-like, loving, other-centered, and sacrificial way. Written by Brad Klassen.
