Angels: Finding Hope in God Who Reigns Over Heaven and Earthਨਮੂਨਾ

Seeing the Unseen
God sends angels to do His will. Sometimes that means fighting on behalf of His people, and other times it includes disciplining His servants. These angelic messengers can also wield weapons to carry out God’s instructions. Occasionally, God allows humans to catch a glimpse of what He is doing in the supernatural realm of angels.
Elisha was a prophet who had been mentored by Elijah. He would have known the stories firsthand about Elijah being fed by angels and calling down fire on armies. He had a supernatural worldview and wanted to help his servant adopt one as well. This account reminds us that all we see is not all there is. While the text doesn’t explicitly say angels were present, the horses and chariots of fire and the inference Elisha makes to “those who are with us” (v. 16, CSB) has been interpreted by scholars consistently through the centuries as suggesting the existence of angel armies being present in this context.
Our homes, cars, workplaces, and churches may be surrounded by angel armies without our awareness. I am asking God to open my eyes to His supernatural presence, whether that includes angels and chariots of fire or the still small voice of His Spirit in my life.
In 2 Kings 6:18-23, God opened the servant’s eyes to see the heavenly army but blinded the eyes of the human army. He could have used that angel army to annihilate the Arameans. Instead, He temporarily blinded them to remove them from danger and instructed that they be given a feast.
God sees the master plan and knows the best course of action, whether it be fight or feast. Elisha’s servant saw the odds, and they didn’t look good. But Elisha knew that when God is on our side, we can’t lose. Battles may rage, but God plus nothing is more than anything the enemy can throw at us.
Read 2 Kings 6:8-23. Praise the Lord for all the unseen ways He is working for your good. Pray that your faith and trust in the Lord is unshakable in times of fear and uncertainty.
