The Passion

DAY 15 OF 57

When my youngest son went through a space-obsessed phase, he casually told me there were possibly trillions of planets and galaxies. Until then, I’d lived assuming there was just our solar system and maybe a few planets. His words completely reshaped how I saw the universe - far bigger than I’d ever imagined!

In this passage, Jesus is inviting the Pharisees (and us) to think differently, too. He asks a question that isn’t just for information - it’s designed to stop them in their tracks. He wants them to realise they’ve been looking at Him with too small a lens, and to see that He is far more than they ever imagined.

Jesus asks a seemingly simple question: “Whose son is the Christ?” The Pharisees quickly answer, “The son of David.” But Jesus is pointing to something deeper. Quoting Psalm 110 - a Psalm where David calls the Messiah “my Lord” - Jesus highlights the unusual language. Why would David call his descendant “Lord”? Unless the Messiah is more than just a son of David and more than just from David’s family tree. Jesus wants to open their eyes: the Christ isn’t just from David’s line - He is also David’s Lord. He is God in the flesh. Standing right in front of them.

Today, ponder this: Have I made Jesus too small - just a helper, a teacher, a wise friend -when He is actually Lord over all? What would change if I let that truth reshape how I see Him, trust Him, and follow Him today?

About this Plan

The Passion

Journey along through Matthew chapters 21 - 28, tracing Jesus’ final days from His entry into Jerusalem to His resurrection. Each devotion unpacks the urgency, sacrifice, and triumph of Christ’s mission, revealing the depth of God’s love and the cost of redemption. Reflect on the Last Supper, Gethsemane, the cross, and the empty tomb whilst encountering Jesus in His suffering and ultimate glory. Whether preparing for Easter or seeking a fresh perspective, The Passion seeks to stir hearts to know Jesus and make Jesus known with hope, boldness, and passion.
