Table Talk

DAY 3 OF 10

The Battle in the Mind

Have you noticed how much of life is lived in our heads? The thoughts we believe shape the way we feel, the choices we make, and even the way we see God.

When Scripture talks about the mind, it’s not just about the brain—it’s about the centre of our thoughts, beliefs, and imagination. And the Bible makes it clear that our minds are a key battleground.

Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 2:16, “But we have the mind of Christ.” That’s an incredible promise. Through the Holy Spirit, we are given access to God’s wisdom and discernment. But if we’re honest, it doesn’t always feel like that. Our thoughts can run wild with worry, self-doubt, comparison, or anger. That’s why Paul also urges us to “take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5).

This tells us two things: first, that not every thought is true, and second, that we have authority in Christ to choose which thoughts we allow to take root. Our minds can either echo the voice of the Father of truth or the father of lies. When our thoughts align with who God says we are—beloved, secure, forgiven—we live with peace and freedom. When our thoughts align with lies, we often find ourselves stuck in cycles of fear or hopelessness.

Even Jesus taught about recognising the right voice. He explained that his sheep know him, listen to him, and follow him (John 10:27, NIV). His voice is gentle, life-giving, and always rooted in love. The enemy’s voice, on the other hand, condemns, accuses, and confuses.

If we want healthy minds, we need to practice discernment by asking, “Does this thought sound like the voice of my Father, or is it something else?” The more we learn to filter our thoughts through the truth of God’s Word, the freer we will live.

Write down three recurring thoughts you’ve had recently. Hold them up against Scripture. Do they sound like the Father’s voice or not? Choose one verse that speaks truth into each thought.

About this Plan

Table Talk

Jesus shows up at the table — in the middle of real conversations, doubts, and everyday moments. When we slow down, share a meal, and open our hearts, God can bring healing, clarity, and fresh perspective. Let’s make our tables places of connection and hope, where faith feels alive and everyone has a seat.
