God Is in Control

DAY 11 OF 30

Day 11: Building Trust Through Relationship

A relationship with God is not a theological theory. It is a daily experience of faithfulness.

“Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this.” Psalm 37:3-5 (NIV)

A son asked his mother, “Mom, how do you know you can trust Dad?” She smiled because the answer was so obvious to her, but it took her a moment to put it into words. “Because I’ve watched him keep his promises during eighteen years of marriage. I’ve seen his character tested, and he’s never let me down.”

This is how trust works in relationships. It grows through shared experiences, tested loyalty, and faithfulness proven over time. Our relationship with God follows a similar beautiful pattern. Prayer becomes conversation, Bible reading becomes personal correspondence, and life's challenges become opportunities to experience God's faithfulness firsthand.

It's not enough to study God's attributes as if we were cramming for a theology exam. Trust develops through personal experience.

See how trust grows in human relationships. It begins with small acts of reliability—keeping promises, showing up when expected, showing care during hardships. Over time, these experiences build trust in a person's character. Our relationship with God follows a similar pattern.

God invites us into this process of building trust. He doesn't demand blind faith, but offers countless opportunities to test His faithfulness in small matters before we trust Him in larger ones. Every answered prayer, every provision, every comfort in sorrow adds another layer to our trust in His character.

The beautiful reality is that God never fails these tests. He never broke a promise, never acted contrary to His nature, never proved unfaithful to those who seek Him. This perfect record builds unshakable confidence in His character.

Your trust in God is not built through one giant leap, but through a thousand small steps as you see Him prove faithful.

My Prayer:

Father, thank you for inviting me into a genuine relationship with You. Help me recognize and remember how You have proven Your faithfulness in the little things, so that I can trust You in the big ones. Build my trust through personal experience of Your goodness. I want to know You, not just about You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Questions to Reflect:

1. What specific experiences have most strengthened your trust in God's character?

2. In what area of your life does God invite you to take the next step of trust based on His proven faithfulness?
