A Shepherd’s Christmas: A 5-Day Plan Through Luke's Account of the Birth of Christ

DAY 5 OF 5

Day 5: Shepherds Share the Good News of Jesus

After the shepherds found Jesus, they couldn’t keep quiet. Luke tells us, “They spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed” (Luke 2:17–18 ESV). They returned to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for everything they had experienced.

What began as an ordinary night ended with lives forever changed. These humble shepherds became the first evangelists, telling anyone who would listen about the newborn King. God didn’t choose priests, scholars, or royalty to announce his Son’s birth. He chose ordinary people who were willing to obey and share.

That is the essence of a Shepherd’s Christmas: to see God's glory, kneel at the manger, and then share the good news with others. The shepherds remind us that once we have encountered Jesus, we can’t keep it to ourselves.

Today, God still uses ordinary people—you and me—to share the extraordinary news of salvation. He calls us to treasure the truth of Christmas in our hearts and then proclaim it to a world that desperately needs hope.

Enjoy every part of this holiday season. Celebrate with loved ones, enjoy traditions, and embrace the joy of the moment. But most of all, remember to share the reason behind it all: Immanuel, God with us.

May we, like the shepherds, return to our daily lives glorifying and praising God, changed because we have seen the Savior.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What fears hold you back from sharing the good news of Jesus?
  2. What truth of the Christmas story will you treasure and share this season?
  3. How can you glorify and praise God in your everyday life after Christmas is over?
