Start Dreaming Again: From Valley to Vision

DAY 13 OF 30

Turn a Deaf Ear

“I am waiting for you, O Lord. You must answer for me, O Lord my God.” Psalm 38:15 NLT

You may have been in this valley a long time, believing, praying, even excitedly anticipating an answer to a prayer or a miracle in a seemingly impossible situation… but nothing seems to budge. You feel a little foolish for hanging on for so long and now the enemy is talking.

“You’ll never be healed. Just live with it.”

“You’ll be in this dead-end job forever.”

“You’ll never get out of this situation. Own it.”
“Give in and quit dreaming. Who are you anyway?”

Waiting can be hard. The longer you wait, the louder the doubts. The enemy is working hard to rattle your cage, shake your faith, undermine everything you’ve been working towards.

King David faced great opposition in his lifetime. The fact that David knew he was not without sin added ammunition to the taunts and threats of the enemies he faced. He had committed adultery and then placed the woman’s husband in the thick of battle where he would undoubtedly be killed (2 Samuel 11). Afterward, David’s repentance was heartfelt, but the facts of what he had done were still out there—fodder for the devil’s tactics to trip him up and pull him down.

And yet, there was an unshakeable faith inside King David, a deep trust that no matter how dark life seemed, God was on his side.

“I am deaf to all their threats,” King David said, referring to the taunts of the enemy. “I choose to hear nothing, and I make no reply” (Psalm 38:13, 14 NLT).

What enabled him to be so steadfast in the face of the enemy? How could he resist the urge to respond or cave to the enemy’s goading? He had committed himself to God. He looked to the only One who could save him.

When life seems bleak and nothing seems to be moving, you can either cave in to the voices of doubt or choose to believe God’s word over your life. You will move through this valley. Trust and believe.

Pray:“Dear God, you are my defense. I choose to believe your word over my life. I will press forward into the future you have prepared for me. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Seek: Is there unconfessed sin in your life? Don’t give the enemy anything to use against you. Confess your sin now, seek God’s forgiveness and move forward.

Speak: When the enemy taunts me, I choose to hear nothing. I choose to believe God.
