Do You Know What a City Without Walls Means?
Proverbs 25:28 (NIV)
“Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.”
This verse from Proverbs talks about temperament. Here, the Bible uses the image of a “city without walls” to represent a person without defense. The Bible presents the fruit of the Spirit, and one of its manifestations is self-control.
Knowing how to control ourselves and manage our temperament is like being a city with walls — protected and secure. Allowing an explosive temperament to take over shows that we lack security and makes us vulnerable to the enemy’s attacks related to our emotions.
People often mention Peter’s temperament. He was a disciple of Jesus, and the Bible reports that he had explosive moments in some situations. However, after a genuine encounter with the Holy Spirit, Peter changed his temperament and exercised self-control.
For this change to happen, the Holy Spirit must be in us. It is a process, and situations will come to test us. But we cannot give in, for we are children of God; He gives us the “shield” against our flesh and against the enemy’s attacks.
Let’s pray to Him:
“Father, I thank You, Lord, for sending Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, may I have a genuine encounter with Him, and may You help me in my process, Father, so that I may be a city with walls! Amen!”
