Honest to God

DAY 4 OF 7

Lies

“Bought my freedom with your blood

Holy tears you shed for love

All my thoughts arrest them please

Once again down on my knees”

The enemy will tell you lies, literally every day. He will try to shame you and manipulate you into believing stuff about yourself and your life that simply is not true. The good news is that we have THE truth to lean on and build our lives on.

All three of us have struggled with the enemy's lies in our lives in different ways. As Ella talks about in her verse in the song, she struggled with overthinking and second-guessing if she was good enough. Same with Dennis, a lot of overthinking and feeling guilt and shame for all kinds of things. Emmy shares in her verse how she has dealt with extremely dark thoughts haunting her. It’s easy to get stuck there and feel like there's no way out. What we can do to darkness is try to bring light into it. Even the smallest light can brighten a dark room.

And that's where the scriptures of truth come in. 1 Peter 1:18 tells us that we've been redeemed. But what does “redeem” actually mean? According to the Cambridge dictionary, the word “redeemed” in the Bible is defined as “to free people from sin”. That's the truth, that we have been set free. Not only that, but Jesus actually died on a cross and BOUGHT our freedom with His blood. How crazy is that? Where else in the world can you find love like that?

The Bible also tells us in 2 Corinthians 10:5 to “take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ.” That’s how you replace the lies with the truth. We don't want the thoughts to take over and rule our lives. We take them captive with help from the Holy Spirit, prayer, worship, and our daily walking with God.
