The Burning Altar - 14 Days of Calling the Church to Pray

DAY 4 OF 14

Breaking Through the Silence in Prayer

We have to pray with our eyes on God, not on the difficulties.”- Oswald Chambers

One of the greatest tests in the life of a believer is not when God speaks, but when He God is silent. We pray, we plead, we pour out our hearts, and sometimes the throne lacks response. The silence can be heavy, confusing, and even painful. Yet, in the silence of prayer, God is often doing His deepest work!

Silence does not mean absence, or quiet from the throne room does not mean heaven’s neglect. In fact, silence is often the sacred space where God stretches our faith, purifies our motives, and teaches us persistence. The silence is not a closed door—it is an invitation to press in!

When we keep praying in the silence, we declare that we trust God more than our feelings. When we keep knocking in the silence, we prove that we desire Him more than just answers. When we keep crying out in the silence, we align our hearts with the truth that He is faithful, even when unseen.

The silence of prayer is not wasted time—it is a training ground. It forges endurance, births intimacy, and strengthens authority in the Spirit. Elijah heard God not in the earthquake or fire, but in the gentle whisper after the silence. Hannah prayed year after year in the quiet of unanswered cries before Samuel was born. Even Jesus prayed in Gethsemane, wrestling in the silence, until strength came from heaven.

Breakthrough often comes on the other side of silence. The enemy wants you to give up when you hear nothing, but God is calling you to lean in, to trust deeper, to keep praying until the silence breaks. For in the silence, your roots grow deep, your faith becomes unshakable, and your prayers gain weight before the throne of God.

Prayer

Father God, teach me not to fear the silence, but to find You in it. When my prayers seem unanswered, remind me that You are near and working in ways unseen. Strengthen my heart to persevere, to keep knocking, to keep believing. Let the silence refine my faith and deepen my intimacy with You. And in Your perfect timing, break through the silence with Your voice, Your power, and Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection Questions

  1. How have I responded in past seasons when God seemed silent in prayer?
  2. What is God teaching me about trust, endurance, or intimacy in this current season of waiting?
  3. Am I willing to pray through the silence until the breakthrough comes?
