Relationships That Flourish: A 30-Day Devotional on Finding Security in Christ and Growing Healthy Connectionsਨਮੂਨਾ

We can probably all think of a time we avoided someone because we feared they might judge us or think of us poorly. There were many reasons why this interaction between Jesus and the Samaritan woman was considered scandalous at this time in history. They came from different cultures, were different genders, and had vastly different life experiences. This woman was drawing water in the midday heat—while most women would do so in the cool of the morning (and in the company of others). Her isolation was likely the result of decisions that had left her outcast, weighed down by shame from her choices in relationships. We don’t know all the details that led to her situation, but still, we can imagine that she had endured many difficult experiences that contributed to her life of immorality.
Most of us have been in relationships that have left us hurting. We have made choices that left us feeling ashamed. We may still be struggling with a pattern of poor decisions that pull us away from God and what he promises is best for us. Just like He did with this woman, Jesus pursues us and is willing to cross any barrier to remind us who He is.
Jesus’ posture towards the Samaritan woman is the same for us today. We can step out of isolation and shame and into a relationship with Him- the only relationship that truly satisfies and gives the belonging we so deeply desire. Jesus loves and understands you. As hard as we may try to bury the shameful things we've done in our lives, we simply cannot hide from a God who sees us. He already knows it all and pursues us in love. Where do we need Him to meet us today?
Reflect: Is there an area of your life where shame is tempting you to withdraw from others? Be honest with God, confessing and repenting from relationship decisions that have not honored Him. What would it look like to believe that God’s love for you is not dependent on your relationship history or past decisions?
Pray: God, thank You for Your grace that sees me and loves me still. Help me draw near to You and find the safety and satisfaction I truly desire.
