God, shield us from temptation and keep us faithful.

There is a temptation around every corner. Even the most well intentioned couple endures the battle to remain faithful to the Lord and one another. At Awesome Marriage we talk a good deal about a very taboo topic: boundaries. While the world may see them as restrictions, we view them as a means of protection! Boundaries protect our marriages from the temptations that encamp around us!

Jesus knew that we would need his help, he knew we would risk stumbling. When he teaches how to pray in Matthew 6:13 (NIV), he says to ask the Lord to “lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” In John 16 (NIV) he says I’ve told you these things to keep you from stumbling. The Lord knew our flesh would be weak but that we could stand strong if empowered by him and remembered his word.

Today, we ask the Lord to show us where we can implement some tangible boundaries to protect our marriage and then we trust him to shield us from the rest. Have a conversation with your spouse about where your marriage could use a little more protection and then go to the Lord in prayer to do the work that only he can do.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that we can trust you to shield us from temptation and to deliver us from evil. We thank you that you alone are capable. We pray for wisdom to do our part, and we ask for your shield to protect us from the battle we can’t fight on our own!
