DAY 56 OF 60

Romans 15
Strive With Me in Prayer

As Paul brings this chapter to a close, he turns to the believers with a heartfelt plea: “I urge you, brothers and sisters… to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me.” This wasn’t a casual request. The word he uses—“struggle”—implies wrestling, effort, even battle.

Prayer, for Paul, wasn’t passive. It was partnership. When we pray, we’re not just observers—we’re co-labourers. Paul invited the Roman believers into the mission not by traveling with him, but by contending with him in prayer.

There’s a deep humility in this moment. Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, the church planter, the miracle worker—he still knew his need for others to pray. He understood that prayer undergirds every advance of the gospel. That breakthrough isn’t born only in action, but in intercession.

This appeal is both intimate and urgent. Paul wanted joy and refreshment when he finally visited them. But that hope rested on their willingness to pray. The mission would only move forward through prayerful struggle.

Are we content to watch the mission from afar—or are we willing to strive in prayer, to take up the burden and join the work on our knees?
