DAY 19 OF 20

In this day and age, social outrage is just about everywhere we turn. Every Instagram post, Substack blog, Tweet, or Facebook comment seems like it’s designed to elicit a response. We’re mad about something? We talk about it. We feel like something is unjust? We call it out. We want people to get behind our cause? We post it in a lengthy note online. While all of that can be beneficial, it’s important to remember as followers of Jesus that our response to the wrongs in the world is about so much more than words and posts. Our response to things like hurt, pain, poverty, and abuse can only be fully generous if it goes beyond words and speech. While words are a great place to start, we’re never really living out our faith as generously as possible if we aren’t moved to act. When we work to make wrongs right in the world by generously acting and giving of whatever we have, that’s when we can see greater faith, love, and generosity grow in us.

This week, ask God to show you where you may be doing more “talking the talk” than “walking the walk” in terms of generosity. Ask Him to guide you toward generous action as a way to show God’s generous love to the world.

About this Plan

Open Handed

The truth is, no matter who you are, you have something to give in service to others. The problem? Those are often the things we tend to close our hands around the tightest. But what if that wasn’t the way life was meant to be lived? This devotional is going to talk about what an open-handed life really looks like, lived out—because generosity is about so much more than giving something away.
