Forever Welcomed: A Five-Day Journey Into God’s Heart for All

DAY 5 OF 5

COME TO THE TABLE

If you and I were to peek into the first-century Jewish meal of Jesus’ Last Supper, we’d likely witness around the table a mix of misfits, tax collectors, fishermen, doubters, and even a betrayer. Some were steadfast in their devotion, while others wrestled with unbelief and wavering faith.

This intimate gathering offers a picture of God’s welcome into His kingdom. A welcome that is extended to the flawed, the wealthy, the poor, the haves, and the have-nots all are invited into the presence of the One who offers redemption. This completely flips our cultural understanding and challenges us to rethink who we deem worthy of an invitation to our own tables.

At the Last Supper, Jesus gave a new command within the context of a personal relationship: “Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another (John 13:34-35).”

With Jesus as the generous Host, the Last Supper inaugurates the New Covenant, as we read in Hebrews 10:20: “He has inaugurated for us a new and living way through the curtain—that is, through His flesh.” Through Jesus’ broken body and shed blood, the door is now wide open for us to approach God (John 10:9).

Forever welcomed—this is God’s generous hospitality: inviting the undeserving to be deeply loved and to love others in return. May each of us know and demonstrate the profound depth of God’s impartial love. It’s a love that reaches for us, welcomes us, and invites us to the table.

Jesus, our gracious Host, thank You for inviting us to Your table, not because we earned it, but because of Your unfailing, impartial love. Let our lives lead others to the table of grace, where all are welcomed to receive it. Amen.

Forever Welcomed: A Five-Day Journey Into God’s Heart for All

Do you find yourself living as if you could earn God’s love or fear you could lose it? Scripture tells a different story: God’s love is impartial. It’s not based on your past, position, or power—it’s grounded in His unchanging character. This devotional by Oghosa Iyamu traces the often-overlooked attribute of God’s impartial love throughout the biblical narrative, inviting you to receive and reflect this kind of love.
