The Chosen and Friends: God With Usਨਮੂਨਾ

No Salvage Mission
From Come and See
It’s easy to miss how wild, joyful, and raucous Jesus’ big entry into Jerusalem would have been until you see it visually in The Chosen.
But then, Jesus spent a lot of time in crowds with people going crazy just to be near him, so the pure energy of this moment isn’t what hits me when I experience this clip.
I had the privilege of standing on set the day The Chosen filmed the “triumphal entry” of Jesus, and in a big field in Utah, I remember tears coming to my eyes because something about it all felt timeless.
As Jesus rides into the city on a donkey, he fulfills one of the most significant prophecies about the Messiah, the rescuer all the Jews were waiting for. Around 500 years before, Zechariah (a Jewish prophet) predicted that a humble king would ride in on a donkey instead of a warhorse. And lo and behold, here comes Jesus of Nazareth on that lowly donkey. There wasn’t a Jew who knew their Bible that didn’t know immediately that Jesus was claiming to be who Zechariah had written about.
Of course, as significant as the fulfillment of one prophecy is, it was just one of the dozens of prophecies Jesus fulfilled during the last days of his ministry, revealing that God had been planning and working towards the healing and repair of his people—all people—for an exceptionally long time.
It’s sometimes easy to see the mess we’ve made of things and assume that God is scrambling to “make do.” But Jesus’ triumphal entry and the fulfillment of countless other prophecies shows us that our Father is never on a salvage mission; he’s an artist long creating a masterpiece. He’s not just picking up the broken pieces, making do with what is left. He’s not surprised by our brokenness and sent scrambling for Plans B, C, or Z.
By the time Jesus rode into Jerusalem atop that donkey, God had been setting the stage and intervening in our lives over hundreds of years to write the perfect story of ultimate healing and goodness. And he still is. For hundreds of years since, he’s been at work to write the perfect ending of ultimate redemption for all of creation. For me. And for you.
