Chosen and Sealed

Ephesians opens with a powerful reminder of who we are in Christ. Paul begins by praising God for every spiritual blessing we have—not because of anything we’ve done, but because God chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4). This truth reframes everything. We are not striving for identity—we’re living from one that has already been given.

Paul says we are adopted as sons and daughters, redeemed through Christ’s blood, and forgiven according to the riches of His grace (Ephesians 1:5–7). These aren’t just theological statements—they’re the anchor of our daily security. No matter what the world calls us, God calls us beloved, forgiven, and His.

And not only are we chosen, we’re sealed. Paul says we’ve been marked with the Holy Spirit as a guarantee of our inheritance (Ephesians 1:13–14). That means our salvation is not fragile—it’s protected. This echoes 2 Corinthians 1:22, where Paul says God has sealed us and given us His Spirit in our hearts as a pledge.

Paul then prays that we would truly know what we’ve been given—wisdom, revelation, hope, and power (Ephesians 1:17–19). He doesn’t ask God to give us more, but to open our eyes to what we already have in Christ. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is now working in us. That truth, also echoed in Romans 8:11, changes how we face weakness, temptation, and fear.

You are not forgotten. You are not powerless. You are not alone. In Christ, you are chosen, sealed, and filled with resurrection power.

Father, thank You for choosing me before I ever chose You. Help me live in the security of being adopted, redeemed, and sealed by Your Spirit. Open the eyes of my heart to see the hope and power I have in Christ. I want to walk today with confidence, not in myself, but in You. Amen.
