Gideon - From Fear to Victoryਨਮੂਨਾ

Gideon - From Fear to Victory

DAY 3 OF 8

Day 3 – Opposition at Home

Scripture: Judges 6:28–32

Devotional:
The next morning, when the people saw Baal’s altar torn down, they were furious. Gideon’s obedience brought confrontation. Often, when we take a stand for God, we should not be surprised if resistance comes, even from those closest to us. Gideon’s obedience to God put his life at risk.

Yet something shifted in Gideon’s family that day. His father Joash, who had tolerated Baal’s altar, suddenly defended his son. “If Baal is a god, let him contend for himself.” The altar had been his, but Gideon’s obedience caused him to change sides. Sometimes the courage of one person awakens faith in others who had previously remained silent.

When we stand for God, not everyone will applaud. But our boldness has the power to bring change, even in our own households. We may not face the danger of losing our lives, but we may find even our Christian friends can oppose us, playing the role of devil’s advocate. We can be put off doing things for God because of the naysayers. Christians need to remember that the devil doesn’t need advocates. He does not need defenders. Our task is to be witnesses of the living God and people of encouragement. Be careful that you are not a naysayer but an encourager to those around you.

Reflection:
Where might my obedience inspire faith in those closest to me? Have I been put off doing things that God led me to do because of opposition? Do I need to pick up what I laid down?

Prayer:
Lord, give me courage to stand even when it brings opposition, and let my faith and obedience to you awaken others.
