30-Day Marriage Class by Vance K. Jackson

DAY 27 OF 30

He Took Counsel.

Notice that the king of Syria “took counsel.” In other words, this evil king took counsel with other evil conspirators. One point to note about this spirit, the king of Syria, is that it tries to align and exalt itself with others in an attempt to overtake you. What’s trying to “overtake” your marriage?

Maybe, it’s people who have spoken ill of you or your spouse. Maybe, it’s past memories that are trying to suffocate your joy. Maybe, it’s offense and bitterness that’s trying to choke your peace. No matter the case—just remember that the king of Syria, this spirit, tries to exalt itself in any area of your life in an attempt to stunt your destiny and your purpose. Don’t let fear immobilize your destiny. Choose to walk forward in purpose. Don’t let the king of Syria and his army stop you from pursuing everything that God has for you.

Ignore those who exalt themselves against your marriage. Don’t exalt man’s opinion over what God’s Word declares concerning your marriage. Choose to fight for your marriage. Choose to defend your spouse. Choose to war together.

Ignore those who take ungodly counsel to war against you and your marriage. Walk not in the counsel of gossipers. Remember, gossipers are not loyal—if they’ll talk about others to you—then they will talk about you. Ignore those who whisper about the success or failure of other marriages. Ignore those who strategically align with others who set themselves against you. Remember that God is for you, and no man, no evil weapon, or alliance can defeat you. Matthew 19:6 AMPC declares, “So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder (separate).”

The king of Syria wants to divide and destroy your marriage. Don’t let pride exalt itself within the borders of your heart. Don’t let haughtiness puff itself up within the borders of your heart and marriage. Proverbs 16:18 KJV declares, Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.” Pride destroys marriages.

What’s trying to subdue your marriage? What’s trying to overtake you? What’s trying to exalt itself against your marriage? What’s trying to war against your family, life, and destiny? Notice the latter part of 2 Kings 6:8 KJV, “Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.”
