Fear Not! A Guide to Living a Fearless Life

DAY 7 OF 30

God Himself Will Fight For You

“At that time I commanded Joshua: ‘You have seen with your own eyes all that the Lord your God has done to these two kings. The Lord will do the same to all the kingdoms over there where you are going. Do not be afraid of them; the Lord your God himself will fight for you’” (Deuteronomy 3:21-22, NIV).

Moses is giving Joshua a final pep talk before he turns over the reigns to him to lead the Israelites across the Jordan River into the Promised Land. God had already allowed the Israelites to defeat Og, king of Bashan, and Sihon, king of the Amorites, under Moses’ command.

Have you ever had the privilege to work or follow someone who was a great leader and made it look effortless? I’m sure that was running through Joshua’s mind; how could anyone ever replace Moses? So much of being a good leader is confidence. However, Moses’ confidence was not in himself, but in God.

Do you believe God and His word? You can only put your full confidence in something or someone you truly trust. The Psalmist said, “I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’" (Psalm 91:2, NIV) If you put your faith in people, or money, or your position, they will eventually fail you. People make mistakes, banks fail, and businesses go under, but one thing that will stand the test of time is God and His word. “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever" (Isaiah 40:8, NIV).

As soon as Moses died, God gave Joshua His own pep talk. In Joshua chapter 1, three times God told Joshua to be “strong and courageous.” Did Joshua have big shoes to fill? Certainly! But if God knows the numbers of hairs on your head, he certainly knows your shoe size.

Most of us need a pep talk just like Joshua received. The same playbook Joshua and Moses used for their success is available to you. God has some fantastic halftime speeches, and I’m certain He would love to share one with you today! Don’t you love it when The Coach takes care of his kids? And when someone had to take one for the team, He sent His own Son to do it.

Whatever life throws at you today, remember, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go" (Joshua 1:9, NIV).

Prayer: Lord, thank You for fighting for me. Help me to be strong and courageous like Joshua and not give way to fear again. Forgive my unbelief where I have doubted Your word. May I develop a child-like faith in Your word. Fill me with Your Spirit and grant me revelation into who You are. Give me a passion and desire to pour myself into Your word and seek it out like a hidden treasure. In Jesus name, amen.
