Draw Nearਨਮੂਨਾ

Chosen by God Almighty
One of the first major characters we’re introduced to in Genesis is Abram—who eventually gets renamed “Abraham.” His life story is significant for a number of reasons. In Romans 4:16-17, he’s called the “father” of our faith because he was the first person mentioned in Scripture to have righteousness credited to him by faith in God.
Today, we’ll read about some of Abraham’s powerful encounters with God. As we read his story, notice the names and qualities of God: a shield and great reward, Sovereign Lᴏʀᴅ, and God Almighty (which in Hebrew is El-Shaddai).
Throughout Abraham’s life, God continually took the initiative to reveal Himself and His purposes to Abraham. One account of this was God’s amazing promise to Abraham in Genesis 12:1-4, where He declared He would make Abraham’s descendents into a great nation, and that all nations would be blessed through him.
However, year after year, Abraham and Sarah waited on God’s promise as they remained childless. And although God’s timing was different than their expectations, we see that God drew near and gave them reassurance by reminding Abraham of His faithfulness to His covenant promises.
Pause and Reflect
Is there a situation where you’re waiting on God’s provision? How have you grown while you’ve been waiting, and what have you learned about God?
Pray
Heavenly Father, You chose Abraham for a special purpose, and I thank You for his example of continual trust in You. Like Abraham, even when things look hopeless, I choose to believe and trust Your ways and timing. Please build my faith and remind me of Your goodness and faithfulness. Thank You for being a God who justifies us by faith in You to bring us into Your family! In Jesus’ name, amen.
