Philippians 4:4-9ਨਮੂਨਾ

Walking in His Footsteps
As we look at Philippians 4:4–9 this week, I’m sure you’ll agree that there are some amazing truths included in this much-studied portion of God’s Word. Timeless Scriptures and themes that you may have heard preached about, or you’ve sung about and talked about countless times over the years. Some absolute classics. There’s amazing guidance about rejoicing, praying and God’s peace that’s made available to us. About how to guard our hearts. And a couple of my favourite verses, 8 and 9, regarding our thoughts and how they affect us so deeply. All meaty and well-known stuff that feeds the soul.
But, like a multilayered sandwich, tucked in amongst all that may be perceived as the main ingredients, we have verse 5: ‘Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.' (NIV)
To be honest, I had not noticed this one before. But it is well worth considering.
So as is my custom, while looking at Scripture I researched the various Bible versions available and landed on the version found in The Voice version that really jumped out to me. In this translation it reads, ‘Keep your gentle nature so that all people will know what it looks like to walk in His footsteps…’
Once again, God reminds us that, as we journey through our Christian walk, we’re being watched and studied. As we apply and live these truths explained to us in the surrounding Scriptures, we’re becoming rejoicing, praying, peaceful and gentle illustrations of our living God who can change the world around us one person at a time. A walking witness. What an honour!
