Day 7: Faith and Worship

When climbing the mountain, we become aware of two competing forces: the law of gravity and the law of photosynthesis. The climb is harder because the weight of our mass is constantly pulled down by gravity. Thankfully, God also created the law of photosynthesis, which causes all living things to reach toward the sun. If photosynthesis were not more powerful than gravity, everything would collapse under its own weight, we’d have no food to eat, and life would cease to exist. Why aren’t trees, grass, and vegetation flattened by the law of gravity? Because photosynthesis is stronger! All life reaches toward the sun. As we climb the mountain, the law of the sun (Son) is greater than the weight and oppression of our sin. It is more powerful than the force pulling down on our earthly frame.

The trees and flowers worship God as they reach higher every day. The minerals, water, and nutrients from the soil are all designed with one purpose: to give them more mass to reach toward the sun. That’s incredible, when you think about it! Everything God created is reaching toward the Light.

1 Peter 1:8 (KJV) talks about “joy unspeakable and full of glory” that comes from loving and trusting Jesus Christ. When you feel the light pulling you up, greater than the forces pulling you down, you become a worshiper. Worshipers experience the higher law and exclaim, “This is incredible! Despite the power of gravity pulling me down, despite the pain, death, and agony I’ve experienced on the climb, I rejoice in the law operating in me that pulls me up, ever higher and higher. Against my will. Against my weight. Against my own judgment. Against my sanity. Against everything in me that would cause me to quit. There is a higher law pulling me up.”

Every cliff we scale allows us to look back in wonder and worship. Every plateau we leave behind causes us to fall on our faces and thank God for His proceeding word. When you climb, you stand on tested truth and cannot help but rejoice in it.
