Daniel Fast - Walking in His Presence Daily.

DAY 9 OF 21

In Pursuing His Kingdom

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

David’s life was marked by a deep commitment to God’s purposes, with the Kingdom of God as his highest priority. In response, God established David’s house with unshakeable promises. That singular focus on honoring God’s name and building His Kingdom left a legacy that outlasted his lifetime and ultimately pointed the world to Jesus. From David’s heart of worship came a lineage through which blessing has spread to every nation on earth. Deep relationship with the Lord shapes our hearts, revealing genuine motives, priorities, and concerns. What is God’s purpose for our lives today? Are we pursuing His plans in our ministry, strengthening our marriages, and restoring broken relationships? All of these should be grounded in His Word, for only His Word provides a firm and reliable foundation!

David’s heart was a unique and precious treasure! Sadly, most kings of Israel and Judah—and even the people—failed to follow his footsteps in pursuing God’s kingdom. Instead of seeking the eternal, they chased the desires of their flesh. God’s love for His people is relentless; He repeatedly sent prophets to call them back to Himself, awakening them from their self-satisfaction.

The human heart is naturally preoccupied and concerned with itself—where we live, what we eat, what we wear, where we study, what kind of job we hold, and how we relax. It’s easy to get stuck there, building our own little kingdom of comfort. This tendency isn’t unique to any age, but God’s Word calls us to a different mindset, focused on the eternal. That’s why, through Haggai, the Lord speaks straight to the heart: “This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘These people say, “The time has not yet come to rebuild the Lord’s house.” ... Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?’” (Haggai 1:2-4). For some, a prophetic word is enough to bring change, while for others, only the weight of judgment stirs their hearts. God calls us to reorder our priorities, to reorient our lives around Him! The truth is His calling isn’t a suggestion – it’s an invitation to build something that lasts.

Where is our heart set? What are our true concerns? Are we stirred with a deep desire to accomplish remarkable things for His glory, or are we simply content with our own comfort, taking life as it comes? Are we driven by a vision to build up and expand His kingdom, or are we consumed by personal anxieties and scarcity of limited resources? Are we ready to loosen our grip on worldly priorities and take bold steps for His sake? David’s life was fueled by a single passion: to fulfill God’s mighty works, to cover the earth with His glory, and to make His name known. He didn’t worry about himself, yet God faithfully took care of him and his household.

So, take courage! Press on in the work of the Lord’s house, knowing that Christ Himself has promised to be with us every step of the way, even to the very end!

“Lord, be the core of my heart. Let my heart be Your dwelling place. Speak to me, reshape my desires and direct my actions by Your grace. Like David, let me live with a restless passion for Your Kingdom. Amen.”
