Day 13—The Holy Spirit helps you in your worship
Devotional
Worship is not just a routine; it is an intentional act that goes beyond our feelings and circumstances. It is an encounter with the living God, enabled by the Holy Spirit. Psalm 143 illustrates a longing and thirst for God, a desire to know His will and walk in His ways (Psalm 143:6,10). This yearning heart is met with the promise of guidance and strength through the Spirit. Paul speaks about the contrast between being filled with wine and being filled with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18), similar to when the onlookers in Jerusalem mistook the Spirit-filled disciples for being drunk (Acts 2:13). Being filled with the Spirit leads you to speak with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, offering thanks to God in all circumstances. He is the Helper who comes alongside you, especially when you're struggling to pray or worship (Romans 8:26). Jesus promises that the Holy Spirit will teach you all things (John 14:26). The Holy Spirit resides within you, always willing to empower your worship. Yet, you must make the conscious choice to seek His guidance. Feelings of sleepiness, busyness, or unworthiness can easily hinder your worship. Recognise these as distractions that the Spirit can help you overcome. When you invite the Holy Spirit into your worship, He transforms reluctance into praise, tiredness into energy, and doubt into a deeper connection with God. Choose to rely on Him, allowing His presence to refresh and renew your worship, whether in your personal quiet time or as part of the gathered church.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, fill me anew, guiding my worship so it overflows with joy and thanksgiving. Amen.
Application
Conscious choice: Set aside a specific time today to seek the Holy Spirit's guidance in your worship, inviting Him to fill you afresh.
Overcoming distractions: Identify one distraction that often hinders your worship, and ask the Holy Spirit to help you overcome it with His strength and peace.
