How to Be Filled With the Spiritਨਮੂਨਾ

How the apostles obeyed
"And they stayed continuously at the temple, praising God" Luke 24:52 (NIV)
"They, (the eleven remaining apostles), all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers" Acts 1:14 (NIV) (Brackets mine)
There were about 120 believers – Acts 1:15.
Throughout his gospel and the book of Acts, Luke demonstrates again and again that every new initiative of God was preceded by a season of committed prayer. So, (to give two brief examples), Jesus prayed through the night before appointing his twelve apostles (Luke 6:12-16), and it was when the prophets and teachers were worshipping and fasting and praying that the Holy Spirit called Barnabas and Saul into mission (Acts 13:1-3).
This has been the pattern throughout two thousand years of church history. Every revival, awakening, and powerful initiative of God has been preceded by believers uniting in committed prayer.
So, it is both important and exciting that we are witnessing prayer movements develop across the worldwide church at this time.
Acts 1 tells us that the apostles (and the 120 believers) joined together in united, constant prayer.
It makes very good sense to understand that these believers were praying the promises of God (in Joel) back to God, because Peter starts by quoting at length from Joel to explain what God was doing to the crowds in Jerusalem.
It also makes very good sense to understand that they gave themselves to praying exactly what Jesus had already told them to pray: "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into the harvest" Matthew 9:38 (NIV).
So, as we seek the filling of the Holy Spirit, let us also pray that the outpouring of the Spirit will equip the church with…
Apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, teachers, (Ephesians 4:11-12); for intercessors, theologians and Bible teachers, those who serve, those who encourage, those with a ministry of giving, leaders, those gifted in the governance of God’s people, those with the spiritual gift of mercy and compassion to those who are poor and destitute in the world, (Rom 12:7-9); for those gifted in hospitality, wisdom, faith, the spiritual gift of miracles, discernment, and the gift of speaking in tongues (1 Corinthians 12:7-10). Let us pray for workers to be raised up and sent out into the harvest. People who preach that the kingdom has come, who drive out demons, heal the sick, raise the dead and cleanse those with leprosy (Matthew 10:7-8).
Let us obey Paul’s leading instruction to follow the way of love and earnestly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy (1 Corinthians 14:1).
Pentecost isn’t about praying "bless me", it’s about praying "bless them", and if you need someone, Lord, "Here I am, send me!"
Let’s give ourselves to seeking the Lord at this time so that the church is mightily empowered in the Word and the Spirit to take the gospel to the nations.
