The Battle Against Perfectionismਨਮੂਨਾ

The Battle Against Perfectionism

DAY 5 OF 5

Becoming a mother and having four babies in six years was like taking a humility pill that my body wanted to reject. I had not in any way mastered housekeeping, married life, ministry life, and work life when motherhood landed on me as well. All of a sudden, I had so many new responsibilities that I could not manage according to my own standards.

My first lesson was to learn that perfection was not possible. It was not possible for me to "fix" everything. I could not "fix" my house, my husband, my kids, or myself. I have to learn to accept and even enjoy all the imperfections.

Motherhood often serves as an unexpected humility pill - one that your heart initially wants to reject but ultimately proves to be the medicine needed for transformation. The role that exposes every weakness, limitation, and character flaw becomes the very instrument God uses to shape you into the woman He designed you to be.

The perfectionist spirit resists this humility, insisting that you should be able to handle everything with competence and grace. But God's economy works differently - He uses weak things to confound the strong, broken vessels to display His glory, and imperfect mothers to raise children who learn about grace through experiencing it firsthand.

Your children don't need a perfect mother - they need a real one who models what it looks like to trust God's grace in the midst of limitation.

Reflection Question: How might embracing the humility that motherhood teaches provide new strength in your relationships?
