Day 30: Set Your Mind on the Spirit
Devotional
God has given us His Spirit—not just as a vague force or power, but as a personal presence who lives within every believer. The Spirit is not passive. He engages with us, guides us, convicts us, strengthens us, and reveals the glory of Jesus. But Scripture is clear: though the Spirit lives in us, we can grieve Him, resist Him, and stifle His influence. This is why Romans urges us to set our minds on the Spirit, because doing so brings life and peace, while setting our minds on the flesh leads to death.
Meditation—chewing on God's Word, turning it over in our minds, allowing it to shape our thoughts and desires—is one way we keep our focus on the Spirit. Psalm 1 paints the picture of the person who delights in God’s Word as a tree rooted by streams of water, flourishing with life. Psalm 63 echoes the longing of a soul that thirsts for God and finds satisfaction through meditating on His steadfast love.
This is not about rushing through devotions but cultivating a relationship with God that shapes every part of life. If we love God, our minds will naturally return to Him throughout the day. Real spiritual life comes from this ongoing attention to God, from being transformed through the Spirit and the Word.
Setting your mind on the Spirit isn't about mystical feelings—it's about intentional, daily choices: reading, meditating, listening, praying, and responding. As you train your mind toward God, your life will reflect His presence, and your love for Him will deepen.
Reflection Question:
What does your thought life reveal about what (or who) you love most? What practical step can you take today to set your mind more fully on the Spirit?
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, thank You for living in me. Forgive me for the times I’ve ignored Your presence or filled my mind with lesser things. Help me to delight in Your Word, to meditate on Your truth, and to be renewed daily by Your presence. Let my thoughts, desires, and actions reflect a heart that loves You. Teach me to walk by the Spirit and to live a life that is rooted in Your power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
