Our Father...

DAY 16 OF 21

Today’s Bread

Do you believe God will give you what you need for today?

“Give us today our daily bread.” It’s a simple sentence, but one that speaks volumes about how Jesus teaches us to trust. He doesn’t say, “Give us what we need for the next month.” He says, “Today.” The prayer invites us into a life of daily dependence, a rhythm that goes against everything our world teaches.

We live in a culture that praises self-sufficiency. We’re trained to plan ahead, store up, and prepare for every possibility. And while there is wisdom in being responsible, Jesus gently reminds us that in the kingdom of God, trust is not stockpiled, it is renewed each day.

This line echoes back to the wilderness story in Exodus 16, where God provided manna, bread from heaven, for the Israelites. They were instructed to gather only what they needed for each day. If they tried to store extra, it rotted. Why? Because God wasn’t just teaching them about provision. He was teaching them about dependence. He wanted their hearts to return to him every morning, not just their hands.

When we pray this way, we’re not just asking for food or finances. We’re asking God to meet our needs—spiritually, emotionally, relationally—in the now. We are declaring that we don’t want to live off yesterday’s provision or tomorrow’s anxiety. We are choosing to trust that his grace is sufficient for this moment.

Dependence is not weakness; it’s wisdom. It anchors us to the one who truly sustains us.

Prayer:
God, help me to depend on you today. Not yesterday’s strength, not tomorrow’s plan—today’s grace. I release the need to control, and I ask for what you know I need. Teach me to trust that what you give is enough.

About this Plan

Our Father...

Over the next 21 days, we’re going on a journey through the words Jesus taught us to pray in Matthew 6. The Lord’s Prayer is an invitation to be changed from the inside out. As we fast and pray together, each daily devotional will help us draw closer to God, grow in identity, realign with his kingdom, trust him for provision, and walk in wholeness.
