Engaging in God’s Heart for the Nations: 30-Day Devotional

DAY 12 OF 30

Not Needed, but Chosen – Day 12

A. Pollock, Formerly With OMS’ Every Community for Christ

Esther 4:14 (ESV)

“For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father's house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”

One of the most valuable lessons I have learned from the story of Esther is that God does not need us. God did not need Esther to bring about the salvation of his people then, just as he does not need us to bring about the salvation of souls now. God will never be short of resources, yet he invites us to partner with him in fulfilling the Great Commission. He chose Esther to bring salvation to the Jewish people. He prepared her and guided her. In the same way, God has selected you, prepared you, and led you to help bring lost souls into the kingdom. How beautiful that the ever-powerful, ever-capable Creator has given humanity this opportunity. What a privilege it is to be chosen by God to do one of the most difficult, yet most meaningful tasks entrusted to his people: to go out and show the love of God and to bring lost souls into the kingdom of heaven. Each one of us was created “for such a time as this.” May you take full advantage of the opportunity God has given you to complete the work of Christ faithfully.
